The article aims to analyze three aspects relative to the research in Communication in Brazil: their organization/representation in the context of the Table of Areas of the Knowledge of the CNPq; the production (thesis and dissertation) of the postgraduate programs in Communication (PPGCOM), using the corpus the works of 2004 (classified from the proposal of sub-areas of the Communication sent to the CNPq for the group of researchers) of the same ones, and finally the structure of the Lines of Research and Areas of Concentration of the PPGCOM. In this last case, it is compared situation of 2006 and 1998. From the analyses, certain trends (organization and production) of the research in the area are evidenced and are argued some aspects that characterize the current state of the scientific field in Communication.||O artigo analisa três aspectos relativos à pesquisa em Comunicação no Brasil: sua organização/representação no contexto da Tabela de Áreas do Conhecimento do CNPq; a produção (teses e dissertações) dos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação (PPGCOM), tendo como corpus os trabalhos de 2004 (classificados a partir da proposta de subáreas da Comunicação enviada ao CNPq pelo grupo de pesquisadores) dos mesmos, e por fim a estrutura das Linhas de Pesquisa e Áreas de Concentração dos PPGCOM. Nesse último caso, compara-se a situação de 2006 com a de 1998. A partir das análises, são evidenciadas certas tendências (de organização e produção) da pesquisa na área e discutem-se alguns aspectos que caracterizam o estado atual do campo científico em Comunicação.
