Em 1911, inaugura-se no alto da encosta do Vale do Anhangabaú o Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, que associado à construção do Viaduto do Chá em 1892, traduzia a necessidade de um cenário mais condizente às transformações impostas pela economia agroexportadora (café e açúcar) e por uma incipiente industrialização. Com efeito, em 1911, o francês Joseph-Antoine Bouvard, foi contratado para realizar dois projetos de embelezamento e funcionalidade para a cidade de São Paulo, conciliando os interesses políticos e econômicos da época. Estamos nos referindo ao Projeto para o Vale do Anhangabaú e para a Várzea do Carmo, que viria a se constituir no Parque D. Pedro II. Este projeto de pesquisa pretende investigar os antecedentes políticos e econômicos, que informaram os projetos do urbanista francês Joseph-Antoine Bouvard para a cidade de São Paulo, identificando as condições de seu financiamento e os interesses neles envolvidos.||In 1911, inaugurated in the high ridges of the Anhangabaú Valley the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo, which associated with the construction of the Viaduct of Chá in 1892, reflected the necessity for a movie set more suited to the transformations forced by the agro-export economy (coffee and sugar ) and an incipient industrialization. Indeed, in 1911, the Frenchman Joseph-Antoine Bouvard was commissioned to realize two projects of embellishment and functionality to the city of São Paulo, reconciling the economic and political concerns of the time. We are referring to the Project for Anhangabaú Valley and the Floodplain of Carmo, which was to be in Park D. Pedro II. This research project aims to investigate the economic and political history, which informed the projects of French urbanist Joseph-Antoine Bouvard to the city of São Paulo, identifying the conditions of their funding and the interests involved therein.
