Significative masterwork of Brazilian literature, “Ancient Tillage” by Raduan Nassar, is a tragic drama about André’s, the protagonist, hýbris to the familiar peasantry order and its impositions. By the way of geographical interpretation based on the humanistic perspective, in particular by the means of the existentialist phenomenology, the essay appoints to an hermeneutical reading of the artwork to reach the understanding of subject-place dialectics. It explores the unraveling of the existential tensions of André’s place through the two moments of the book: “The departure” and “Homecoming”. At the course of the disruption of attachments, the tension begins to be a way of existing at the place, leading to the extreme paternal pathos that deconstructs the familiar order. Key-words: Place, Attachments, Moral order.||Obra significativa da literatura brasileira, “Lavoura Arcaica”, de Raduan Nassar, é um drama trágico acerca da hýbris de André, o protagonista, à ordem familiar campesina e suas imposições. Pela interpretação geográfica pautada na perspectiva humanista, em particular na fenomenologia existencialista, o texto realiza uma leitura hermenêutica da obra visando desvelar a dialética sujeito-lugar. Explora os desdobramentos das tensões existenciais do lugar de André por meio dos dois momentos da obra: “A partida” e “O retorno”. No decurso do rompimento e arquitetura de vínculos, a tensão se torna um modo de existir no lugar, a ocasionar no extremo do pathos paterno que desconstitui a ordem familiar.
