In this article, we analyze the political cinema developed by Glauber Rocha and Jean-Luc Godard between the late 1960s and early 1970s, focusing on two of their films that allow elucidating comparisons of the work of the filmmakers and the attempt of dialogue between them. Our reflection will focus specifically on the development of the self-criticism procedure in these films: Terra em Transe (Glauber Rocha, 1967) and Luta na Itália (Dziga Vertov Group, 1970). Both films use a militant intellectual protagonist to problematize their participation in a specific political context, also allowing some reflections on the role of the militant filmmaker in his context.||No presente artigo, pensaremos o cinema político desenvolvido por Glauber e Godard entre finais dos anos 1960 e início da década de 1970, nos detendo em dois de seus filmes que permitem comparações sobre o trabalho dos cineastas e a tentativa de diálogo entre eles. Nossa reflexão se concentrará especificamente no desenvolvimento do procedimento da autocrítica nesses filmes: Terra em Transe (Glauber Rocha, 1967) e Lutas na Itália (Grupo Dziga Vertov, 1970). Buscamos investigar como cada um dos realizadores empregou a autocrítica na focalização de um protagonista intelectual.
In this article, we think about the political cinema developed by Glauber and Godard between the late 1960s and early 1970s, in two of his films that allow comparisons of the work of the filmmakers and the attempted dialogue between them. Our reflection will focus specifically on the development of self-criticism in these films: Terra em Transe (Glauber Rocha, 1967) e Lutas na Itália (Dziga Vertov Group, 1970). We investigate how each of the filmmakers employed the self-criticism in the focus of an intellectual protagonist.
