In this article the author translates and comments on a medieval ballad of wife’s complaint, highlighting the difficulties of translating the literary text and analyzing the rebellious and revolutionary attitude of the female lyrical I, who breaks the expectations of a marital patriarchal system advocated by the Catholic Church and the traditional family affiliations in the Middle Ages context. ||Neste artigo o autor traduz e faz um comentário de uma balada medieval ou canção de mal casada ressaltando as dificuldades de tradução do texto literário, além de analisar a postura “emancipada” do eu lírico feminino no poema que acaba por romper com as expectativas do sistema marital defendido pela Igreja Católica e as tradicionais linhagens familiares no contexto da Idade Média.
