A language figure used and analyzed since the classic antiquity, the allegory or metaphor fulfilled several functions in the discourses of (retores), poets, theologians, etc. It acquired, at first, the role of beautifying the text, and became the rhetorical proof used by the Jesuits in the hermeneutics of the biblical texts. Using the particularities of the analogies that make this allegory, as a basis, we can distinguish three subdivisions of this kind of expression: the poets' allegory, the theologians' one, and the allegory from the renaissance. In this article, it is intended to show the process of formation of the poets' allegory, providing means to this interpretation.||Figura de linguagem empregada e analisada desde a antiguidade clássica, a alegoria ou metáfora continuada desempenhou diversas funções nos discursos dos retores, poetas, teólogos etc. Adquirindo, primeiramente, o papel de embelezador do discurso, esse tropo tornou-se prova retórica usada pelos jesuítas, na hermenêutica do texto bíblico. Apoiando-se nas especificidades das analogias que produzem a alegoria, pode-se distingui três subgrupos desse tropo, a saber: alegoria dos poetas, dos teólogos e de renascimento. Nesse artigo, pretende-se demonstrar o processo de formação das alegorias dos poetas no Sermão de Padre Vieira, fornecendo os meios para sua interpretação.
