In this article, we seek to study the important theme of the death of God in Nietzsche’s thinking, analyzing and opposing the interpretation of commentators. For such effort we shall analyze the announcement of the death of God, attempting for its subtle symbology. We cannot avoid the study of the self-suppression of morality, as the motive for the divine decadence. Also we will observe the impact of this capitol fact in morality, seeking, at last, if not to answer at least instigate the debate, towards the following issues: Can we speak of an atheism in Nietzsche? Does it follow from the death of God a negative nihilism?||Neste artigo buscaremos abordar o importante tema da morte de Deus no pensamento de Nietzsche, analisando e confrontando a interpretação de comentadores sobre o mesmo. Para esta tarefa analisaremos o anúncio da morte de Deus, atentando para a simbologia sutil contida nele. Não poderemos fugir do estudo da auto-supressão da moral, como motivadora do ocaso divino. Também observaremos o impacto deste fato capital no âmbito moral, buscando, por fim, senão responder ao menos instigar o debate, sobre as questões: Podemos falar de um ateísmo em Nietzsche? Decorre da morte de Deus um niilismo negativo?
