Au cours de l’histoire brésilienne, le Sertão s’est constitué comme un espace privilégié et une catégorie-clef dans l’imaginaire du pays. Au-delà de l’espace strictement géographique, la littérature, la culture orale, le cinéma, la télévision, mais également les sciences sociales ont façonné des représentations du Sertão s’inscrivant souvent en opposition aux espaces du littoral. C’est ainsi qu’au fil du temps, ces représentations ont construit une dichotomie, dans laquelle le Sertão et le littoral sont caractérisés par des ordres sociaux différents, mais également symbolisent des oppositions comme monarchie/république, barbarie/civilisation, inertie/mouvement, ou archaïsme/modernité. À partir des années 2000, de nouvelles représentations émergentes problématisent l’imaginaire du Sertão en l’inscrivant en tant qu’espace mobile et hybride : c’est ce que nous proposons de démontrer dans notre communication en analysant le roman Galiléia (2009) de Ronaldo Correira de Brito et le film Árido Movie (2005) de Lírio Ferreira. ||In the course of Brazilian history, Sertão has constituted itself as a privileged space and a key category in the country’s imaginary landscape. Beyond the strictly geographical space, literature, oral culture, cinema, television, but also the social sciences have shaped representations of Sertão often contrasted with the spaces of the coastline. Thus, over time, these representations have built a dichotomy, in which the Sertão and the coastline are characterized by different social orders, but also symbolize oppositions like monarchy/republic, barbarism/civilization, inertia/movement, or archaism/odernity. Beginning in the 2000s, new emerging representations are problematizing the imagination of Sertão by enrolling it as a mobile and hybrid space: this is what we propose to demonstrate in our communication by analyzing the novel Galiléia (2009), written by Ronaldo Correia de Brito, and the film Árido Movie (2005), by Lírio Ferreira.
