People, in general, spend a good portion of their time looking for meaning in their lives. Establishing a set of goals and values on behalf of which to live and fight is, as we all know, a difficult task. Such a goal, however, is extremely more complex when what must be justified is not life but death. After all, where and how can one find arguments capable of giving meaning to a life dedicated to the propagation of destruction? How can individuals and nations accept in peace of mind the idea of killing or being killed?||As pessoas, de uma forma geral, gastam uma boa parcela do seu tempo procurando um significado para suas existências. Estabelecer um conjunto de objetivos e valores em nome dos quais se deve viver e lutar é, como se sabe, uma tarefa difícil. Tal meta, no entanto, é extremamente mais complexa quando o que se deve justificar é, não a vida, mas a morte. Afinal, onde e como pode se encontrar argumentos capazes de dar sentido a uma vida dedicada à propagação da destruição? Como podem indivíduos e nações aceitarem em paz de espírito a idéia de matarem ou serem mortos?
