O delicado equilíbrio entre verbo e música que se manifesta na canção popular está intimamente ligado à dupla natureza da voz humana, instrumento de fala e instrumento de música a um tempo. O autor propõe que uma revisitação às teorias formalistas da linguagem, sobretudo à glossemática de Hjelmslev, poderia iluminar esse jogo de parentescos, afinidades e encontros entre a música e o verbo.
