This article presents the partial conclusions of a research on the political elites of the state of Minas Gerais during the First Republic. It focuses on the relations between the major political and economic regions of Minas Gerais (Zona da Mata, Central and Southern regions) and their impact on the aliance between this state and that of São Paulo. It is pointed out that, when the internal dominant alliance united the coffee producing regions (Zona da Mata and Southern region), the relations with São Paulo were favoured; and when the internal dominant alliance was between the Southern and Central regions, the political elites had more autonomy regarding to agricultural goods exportation interests. But, whatever the case, such interests remained hegemonic all over the period. The conclusion is that the permanent internal conciliation propension of Minas Gerais did not exist. In Minas Gerais, the interrregional factions were always present, and influenced the role of the state in the national setting.||O artigo é uma síntese dos resultados parciais de uma pesquisa sobre as elites políticas mineiras na Primeira República. Trata-se do estudo das relações entre as principais regiões políticas e econômicas de Minas Gerais (Zona da Mata, Centro e Sul ) e de seu impacto na aliança Minas-São Paulo. Pudemos perceber que, quando a aliança interna dominante era formada pelo eixo cafeeiro (regiões da Mata e Sul), as relações com São Paulo eram favorecidas; quando a aliança interna dominante era formada pelas regiões Sul e Centro, as elites políticas detinham maior nível de autonomia em relação aos interesses da agroexportação. Em ambos os casos, porém, tais interesses permaneceram hegemônicos durante todo o período. Por fim, concluímos que a existência permanente da conciliação mineira não correspondeu à realidade. Em Minas, a existência de facções inter-regionais foi uma constante, condicionando a performance do estado no cenário nacional.
