The article investigates the relations between History and Art, from the standpoint of Cultural History. Having chosen the theme of the Lady of Shalott as part of the Arturian cycle and recurring object of ninetheen century English painting in order to retrieve the sensibilities of that particular time, it produces a historical reading of pictorial images in their crossover with poetic language.||O artigo estuda as relações entre a História e a Arte segundo a abordagem da História Cultural, a partir do tema da Dama de Shalott, personagem integrante do ciclo arturiano e objeto recorrente da pintura inglesa do século XIX. Procura resgatar as sensibilidades de uma época por meio de uma leitura histórica de imagens pictóricas, em cruzamento com a linguagem poética.
