Having its origin in a dance, the "lundu-song" was introduced in Portugal by the end of the 18"' century by Domingos Caldas Barbosa. What most calls attention in the gen re is the lyrical subject introduced by the lyrics: a slave who speaks to his or her owner. This differential trace in relation to the love discourse of the '‘modinhas" allows approaching the lundu as a form of elaboration by the popular im aginary o f the com plexities involved in slavery.||
Originário da dança do lundu, o lundu-canção foi levado para Portugal em fins do século XVIII por Domingos Caldas Barbosa. O que mais chama a atenção no gênero é o sujeito lírico que se encena na letra: um negro ou uma negra que se dirige à sua sinhá ou a seu sinhô. Este traço diferencial em relação ao discurso amoroso das modinhas permite abordar o lundu como forma de elaboração por parte do imaginário popular, das complexidades envolvidas na escravidão.
