Between September 1861 and April 1862, 45 letters were published under the pseudonym of solitary, on the pages of the Correio Mercantil, which were later disseminated as a pamphet under the title of Cartas do Solitário, whose authorship was assumed by Tavares Bastos. The book has had four editions to date, but I dedicated myself to examine the publication of the letters in the newspaper and the first two editions of the book, which occurred in 1862 and 1863 respectively. I tried to analyze the materiality of the text, in view of both the changes made in each edition, as to the possible political intentions that involved its publications.||Entre setembro de 1861 e abril de 1862, foram publicadas sob o pseudônimo de solitário, 45 cartas nas páginas do Correio Mercantil, que posteriormente foram distribuídas como panfletos sob o título de Cartas do Solitário, cuja autoria foi assumida por Tavares Bastos. O livro teve até o presente quatro edições, mas me dediquei a examinar a publicação das cartas no jornal e as duas primeiras edições do livro, que ocorreram respectivamente em 1862 e 1863. Procurei analisar a materialidade do texto, tendo em vista tanto as alterações realizadas em cada edição, quanto as possíveis intenções políticas que envolveram suas publicações.
