This article takes the film The Lena Baker Story as an analytical index to discuss relations established between historiographical and cinematic fields in the construction of social memory. Considering the ambiguous and provocative interaction established between historiography and memory, the reflection says about the importance of cinematic narratives based on real events, or whether fictional or documentary, to discuss and problematize the construction and reinterpretation of places of memory.KEYWORDS: Cinema.
