O objetivo deste trabalho é discutir a noção de comunidade de fala e suas implicações na pesquisa sociolingüística, mostrando que esta pode ser ampliada, e que outros construtos teóricos podem contribuir em uma pesquisa variacionista, como as de redes sociais e comunidade de prática. A metodologia utilizada para atingir o objetivo deu-se através de pesquisa bibliográfica. Palavras-chave: Variação. Sociolingüística. Comunidade de Fala. ||This works aims at discussing the notion of speech community and its implications over the sociolinguistic research, showing that it (the notion) can be enlarged, and that other theoretical constructs can possibly contribute within a variationist research, as the ones directed to the social webs and communities of practice. In order to reach that goal, it was used a methodology based on a bibliographic research.
