The town planning laws address the multiple factors that influence the consolidation of cities. In this scenario, the laws relate to the protection of cultural property to materialize through of the Union’s regulations, the states and municipalities concern of society, public authorities and institutions dealing with issues relating to the preservation and intervention to the cultural heritage, the use of public enforcement agents, research on responsibility for urban and environmental crimes, as well as urban management tools. It is proposed in this study present a brief urban legislative history of the City of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, and demonstrate how existing urban laws relate to the issue of protection of cultural heritage. As a result, it is observed that the existence of urban laws in interaction with heritage issues is not always enough to promote effective protection and safeguard, given that no political interest laws are restricted to simple speeches.Keywords: Urban regulation. Cultural h||As legislações urbanísticas abordam os múltiplos fatores que influenciam na consolidação das cidades. Neste cenário, as legislações relacionam-se com a proteção dos bens culturais ao materializar por meio das normativas de responsabilidade da União, dos Estados e dos Municípios a preocupação da sociedade, do poder público e das instituições com o tratamento das questões vinculadas à preservação e à intervenção no patrimônio cultural, a utilização de agentes públicos de fiscalização, a investigação sobre a responsabilidade pelos delitos urbanísticos e ambientais, assim como os instrumentos de gestão urbanística. Propõe-se nesta pesquisa apresentar um breve histórico legislativo urbano da Cidade de Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, e demonstrar como as legislações urbanas existentes se relacionam com a questão da proteção do patrimônio cultural. Como resultado, observa-se que a existência de legislações urbanas em interação com as questões patrimoniais nem sempre é o suficiente para promover uma efetiva proteção e salvaguarda, tendo em vista que sem o interesse político as legislações restringem-se a simples discursos.
