In this paper we analyses the Russian realist painting made in the 1920’s. Starting with a discussion about the meaning of realism in 20th century we seek to situate the pictorial art in the post-revolutionary context, inquiring into the complex relationships between the cultural policy promoted by the government and the art made by several artists whose tenets were attuned to the new directives.||Neste artigo analisamos a pintura realista russa produzida na década de 1920. Partindo de uma discussão acerca do significado do realismo no século XX, procuramos situar a arte pictórica no contexto pós-revolucionário, investigando as complexas relações existentes entre a política cultural conservadora promovida pelo governo e a arte efetivamente produzida por vários artistas reunidos em associações, cujos princípios estavam plenamente sintonizados com as novas diretrizes.
