The Argentinean visual artist León Ferrari has been considered an important critic with regard to the positioning of the Catholic Church in Latin America over the last three decades. Our paper sought to understand how texts and works of this prolix artist represent Inferno (Hell), as another important motive of his sarcastic discourse, which aims at highlighting the paradoxes between a society represented as laic and its religious universe. Ferrari utilizes elements, which are dear to contemporary art, like the appropriation of the history of art and the contra-irony, in the same way as he uses the elements of a tardy modernism, like the uncommon juxtapositions and the random procedures, which are both markedly surrealist.||O artista visual argentino León Ferrari tem sido considerado um crítico importante aos posicionamentos da Igreja Católica, na América Latina, nas últimas três décadas. Nosso trabalho buscou compreender como textos e obras deste artista representam o Inferno, importante motivo de seu discurso sarcástico, que visa destacar os paradoxos entre uma sociedade representada como laica e seu universo religioso. Ferrari utiliza elementos caros à arte contemporânea como a apropriação da história da arte e a contra-ironia, da mesma forma que faz uso de elementos de um modernismo tardio, como as justaposições incomuns e os procedimentos aleatórios, ambos marcadamente surrealistas.
