While understanding the character as a diffuse signification unit, progressively constructed by discourse, this article presents an analysis about the process of the verbal beings, searching for an explanation of the complex and autonomous structure which gives it a true sense, something that might bring confusion to the reader, considering the walls that split reality and fiction.||Entendendo a personagem como uma unidade difusa de significação, construída progressivamente pelo discurso narrativo, esse artigo apresenta uma análise do processo de construção do ser verbal, que busca explicitar a estrutura complexa e autônoma que lhe dá sentido, chegando mesmo a confundir o leitor quanto às barreiras que separam ficção e realidade.
