The mote “Seven fairies fated me” became notorious as one of the verses of a popular rimance collected by Almeida Garrett (1799-1854) and published in his Romanceiro in 1828. This same verse appears as the title of one of the tracks of the album Eu vou ser como a toupeira (I will be like the mole), by the Portuguese singer Zeca Afonso, released in 1972. The purpose of this study is to revisit the musician-literary tradition founded by such a mote in its variants, reinforcing the never completely broken links between literature and music.||O mote “Sete fadas me fadaram” tornou-se notório como um dos versos de um rimance popular coligido por Almeida Garrett (1799-1854) e publicado em seu Romanceiro no ano de 1828. Esse mesmo verso aparece como título de uma das faixas do álbum Eu vou ser como a toupeira, do cantor português Zeca Afonso, lançado em 1972. O presente estudo tem por objetivo revisitar a tradição músico-literária fundada por tal mote feérico em suas variantes, reforçando os laços nunca completamente desfeitos entre literatura e música.
