This paper deals with the conflicting character of the streets as public spaces, namely through the analysis of the uses and unsubmissive daily practices which defy the disciplinary order of urban interventions in historical cities. By taking Barcelona's historical center as an empirical reference, the analysis is based on Michel de Certeau's theory of practices and aims at understanding the disjunctive uses of spaces in the city through contemporary processes of gentrification.||Este artigo aborda o caráter conflitivo da rua como espaço público, nomeadamente através da análise dos usos e práticas cotidianas insubmissas que desafiam a ordem disciplinar das intervenções urbanísticas em cidades históricas. Tendo como referente empírico o centro histórico de Barcelona, a análise se baseia na Teoria das Práticas de Michel de Certeau e tenta compreender as disjuntivas de usos dos espaços da cidade, em processos contemporâneos de gentrification.
