O objetivo deste ensaio é contribuir para as discussões acerca das origens e características das rivalidades futebolísticas entre as três seleções mais tradicionais da América do Sul: Uruguai, Brasil e Argentina. Além de estabelecer as diferenciações entre tais rivalidades, o trabalho se propõe estabelecer critérios para uma proposta de quantificação e de avaliação do desempenho das seleções e clubes desses países.||This essay aims to contribute to the discussions on the origins and characteristics of the soccer-related rivalries between the three most traditional countries in South America: Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina. Besides establishing the distinctive features of each rivalry, this work proposes to set criteria for quantifying and assessing the performance of the teams and clubs from those countries.
