Em sua edição de 31 de março de 1997, o Jornal Nacional (Rede Globo) veiculou uma série de reportagens sobre práticas violentas de policiais militares contra moradores da Favela Naval, em Diadema (SP). De grande repercussão, o escândalo desencadeou consequências políticas e institucionais diretas. Argumentamos aqui que um dos amplificadores do impacto foi o modo como a denúncia ganhou visibilidade: por meio de uma filmagem amadora. Trazemos elementos que permitem articular, de um lado, as especificidades estéticas, narrativas e discursivas das reportagens produzidas a partir do vídeo amador e, de outro, o contexto social, político e institucional em que eclode o acontecimento da Favela Naval.||in March 31, 1997, Jornal Nacional (Rede Globo) broadcast a series of news about violent practices of military police against residents of Favela Naval, in Diadema, São Paulo. We argue here that one of the factors that intensified the incident was the way it gained visibility: through amateur filming.
