The article aims to discuss the opinion of Antonio Candido on the book Em câmara lenta (1977), by Renato Tapajós. The government accused him of publishing a subversive work that was against the National Security Law. The opinion in question was requested by the defense of the writer in order to show that it was not a text capable of gathering readers for the guerrilla, but a piece of fiction in which Tapajós makes a self-criticism of the option for armed struggle. The opinion of Candido was fundamental for the liberation of the author and the work. Our hypothesis understands that Antonio Candido intentionally elaborated a strategic opinion with a structuralist, non-dialectical bias, contrary to his convictions, with the greater objective of assisting in the liberation of the writer.||O artigo objetiva discutir o parecer de Antonio Candido sobre o livro Em câmara lenta (1977), de Renato Tapajós. O governo militar o acusara de publicar obra subversiva que atentava contra a Lei de Segurança Nacional. O texto em questão fora solicitado pela defesa do escritor a fim de mostrar que Em câmara lenta não seria capaz de arregimentar leitores para a guerrilha, mas peça de ficção na qual Tapajós realiza uma autocrítica da opção pela luta armada. O parecer de Candido foi fundamental para a libertação do autor e da obra. Nossa hipótese entende que Antonio Candido elaborou, intencionalmente, um parecer estratégico com um viés estruturalista, não dialético, contrariando suas convicções, com o objetivo maior de auxiliar na libertação do escritor.
