Orientador: Fabio Nauras Akhras||Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes||Resumo: A pesquisa estuda a obra documental do cineasta americano Errol Morris, que compreende o período de 1978 até os dias de hoje. Especificamente serão realizadas análises dos documentários The Thin Blue line (1988), Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr (1999) e The Fog of War (2003). A partir da relação entre cinema e sociedade, objetiva-se neste estudo compreender como o cineasta parte de seus personagens para investigar e promover discussões acerca dos problemas sociais e políticos da sociedade americana. Para tal compreensão, é necessário analisar as formas de construção fílmicas utilizadas pelo cineasta, tentando identificar táticas de distanciamento nesta construção||Abstract: This research studies the documentary work of american filmmaker Errol Morris, which covers the period from 1978 to the present day. Specifically, will be conducted analyzes of the documentaries The Thin Blue Line (1988), Mr. Death: The rise and fall of Fred A. Leuchter Jr. (1999) e The Fog of War (2003). From the relation between cinema and society, this study aims to understand how the filmmaker starts from his characters to investigate and promote discussions about the social and political problems of american society.
