Taking from the text of the play Midsummer night’s dream, the article outlines the importance of the Classical tradition in the English drama in the 16th and 17th centuries,showing how William Shakespeare appropriates himself of ancient Greek and Roman cultures recreating them in great part of his production, keeping both technical featuresof the Classical drama, and thematic resources which often are shifted from History into fiction.|| Com base no texto dramático de Sonho de uma noite de verão, o texto discute a importância da tradição clássica na Inglaterra dos séculos XVI e XVII, mostrando como William Shakespeare se apropria da cultura da Grécia e da Roma antigas e a recria em grande parte da sua produção dramática, mantendo não apenas aspectos técnicos do teatro clássico grego, como também fazendo uso de recursos temáticos que, muitas vezes, são deslocados da história para a ficção.
