In this article, we will discuss modernity from the perspective of the poet of Les Fleurs du Mal, especially for the aesthetic dimension present in his poems of the second half of the nineteenth century. Modernity in Baudelaire is one that tells of the discontinuity of time, which speaks of the rupture of tradition, brings a feeling of novelty, a vertigo of what passes. To erect his aesthetic project it was necessary for Baudelaire to face Romanticism, denying this project. Unlike the romantics, Baudelaire uses his fantasy as a force derived from intelligence. The poet is a man bent over himself, but does not place himself in his poetry - these relate to the poet as he appears as a victim of modernity. Baudelaire was able to understand that the modern experience was different and that if art failed to account for the new life, it would be forever lost.||Neste artigo, discutiremos a modernidade a partir da perspectiva do poeta de Les Fleurs du Mal, sobretudo pela dimensão estética presente em suas poesias da segunda metade do século XIX. A modernidade em Baudelaire é aquela que narra a descontinuidade do tempo, que fala da ruptura da tradição, traz sentimento de novidade, vertigem do que passa. Para erigir seu projeto estético era necessário que Baudelaire enfrentasse o romantismo, negando este projeto. Diferentemente dos românticos, Baudelaire usa sua fantasia como uma força advinda da inteligência. O poeta é um homem curvado sobre si mesmo, mas não se coloca em suas poesias – estas versam sobre o poeta à medida que ele aparece como vítima da modernidade. Baudelaire foi capaz de entender que a experiência moderna era outra e que, se a arte não desse conta da nova vida, ela estaria para sempre perdida.
