My objective in this review is to present, in general, the different theoretical perspectives that can be found in Brazil in search of democracy, by Newton Bignotto. In this sense, I make a structural presentation of the work at the same time that I try to discuss the author's arguments in its most relevant aspects. In general, the intention is to retain the discussion on the different moments of Brazilian democracy in the light of a republican view.||Meu objetivo nesta resenha é apresentar, de modo geral, as diferentes perspectivas teóricas que podem ser encontradas em O Brasil à procura da democracia, de Newton Bignotto. Neste sentido, realizo uma apresentação estrutural da obra ao mesmo tempo em que busco discutir os argumentos do autor em seus aspectos mais relevantes. Em linhas gerais, a intenção é reter a discussão sobre os diferentes momentos da democracia brasileira à luz de uma visão republicana.
