In the light of Cultural Studies and Postcolonial Theory, the present study aimed to investigate how Brazil, although not located in the East, was constructed within a supposed of orientalism essence. In this sense, the article presents the historical-cultural context of the country and a bibliographical review is carried out by the main authors of the Postcolonial Studies, central authors and some seminal ones of Cultural Studies, who dared denounce and deconstruct the discourses of power present between (ex) colonizers and (ex) colonized.||À luz dos Estudos Culturais e da Teoria Pós-Colonial, o presente estudo propôs-se investigar como o Brasil, embora não esteja localizado no Oriente, foi sendo construído dentro de uma suposta essência orientalizante. Neste sentido, o artigo apresenta o quadro histórico-cultural do país e procede uma revisão bibliográfica pelos principais autores dos Estudos Pós-Coloniais, autores centrais e alguns seminais dos Estudos Culturais, que ousaram denunciar e desconstruir os discursos de poder presentes entre (ex) colonizadores e (ex) colonizados.
