In Caminhos cruzados (1934), the second novel written by Erico Verissimo, many different characters wander about the city of Porto Alegre. One of them is responsible for questioning dilemmas of the Brazilian intelligentsia: the school teacher Clarimundo Roxo. The aim of this paper is to discuss the role played by Clarimundo in relation to the representation of the man of letters and his dilemmas in the works of Erico Verissimo||Em Caminhos cruzados (1934), segundo romance de Erico Verissimo, várias personagens transitam pela capital gaúcha. Uma delas problematiza dilemas da intelectualidade brasileira: o professor Clarimundo Roxo. Este artigo tem por objetivo debater a função desempenhada por essa personagem no que se refere à representação do intelectual e seus dilemas na obra de Erico Verissimo
