The main goal of this article is to describe the suburbs and the old capital of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, in the beginning of the 20th century, during the Pereira Passos Reform. Our protagonist and guide, in this case, is the writer Lima Barreto, an important and unique voice in the post-abolition milieu.||O objetivo deste artigo é descrever os subúrbios e a antiga capital do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro, no começo do século XX e durante a Reforma Pereira Passos. Nosso protagonista e guia é, nesse caso, o escritor Lima Barreto, uma voz importante e única nesse contexto do pós abolição.
