Considering the contributions of photographic history and philosophy of science, this articleseeks to raise the relations between science and common sense in the Brazilian construction of atheory of photography, claiming that the convergence between the two modes of knowledge(science and common sense) happens through the imagination. The symbolic images of someheuristic assumptions of Brazilian intellectual production about photography in the period 1999-2009 are analyzed. Underlying to the theoretical construction of the area, the mythology of themirror is found.||Considerando-se as contribuições da história da fotografia e da filosofia da ciência,busca-se levantar as relações entre ciência e senso comum na construção brasileirade uma teoria da fotografia, postulando-se que a convergência entre os dois modosde conhecimento (ciência e senso comum) se dê através do imaginário. Analisam-seas imagens simbólicas de alguns pressupostos heurísticos da produção intelectualbrasileira sobre fotografia no período de 1999-2009, encontrando-se, subjacente àconstrução teórica da área, a mitologia do espelho.
