ABSTRACT: This article presents an analysis of the role of the evidentials in a Wa’ikhana oral narrative, using a Cognitivist approach. Evidentiality is a grammatical category that indicates source of information and that is grammaticalized and obligatory in Eastern Tukanoan languages. The results showed that in Wa’ikhana, particularly, different uses of evidential categories in a narrative indicated different viewpoint marking, related to the conceptualizers involved in the narrative event – the speaker/narrator, the virtual observer and the characters.

Cognitive Linguistics.||RESUMO: Este artigo analisa, sob a ótica da Linguística Cognitiva, o papel dos evidenciais em uma narrativa oral da língua Wa’ikhana (Tukano Oriental). Tendo em vista que a evidencialidade é uma categoria gramatical que indica fonte de informação, que é gramaticalizada obrigatoriamente nas línguas Tukano Oriental, e em Wa’ikhana em particular, os resultados da pesquisa indicam que a escolha de diferentes categorias evidenciais em narrativas da língua reflete estratégias de sinalização de ponto de vista, associadas aos diferentes conceptualizadores envolvidos no evento narrativo: o falante/narrador, o observador virtual e os personagens.
