RESUMO: No primeiro capítulo do livro Experiência e Natureza, John Dewey (1859-1952) explora os conceitos de “experiência” e “natureza” mostrando-os de forma interrelacionada considerando a vida do ser humano e, principalmente, quanto ao aspecto cognitivo. Por estas razões, ele argumenta em favor da necessária consideração da relação intrínseca entre experiência e natureza, de forma a defender a utilização do método empírico nas pesquisas científicas, uma vez que para o autor, não há sentido no dualismo entre teoria e prática. Diante desta exposição, nos esforçamos para tentar relacionar tais princípios filosófico-educacionais em sua aplicabilidade numa realidade limitada pela falta de recursos materiais e financeiros, como no caso das escolas públicas brasileiras - onde muitos professores, acabam por restringir suas aulas apenas às explicações teóricas, se atendo somente ao campo da experiência secundária. Das ideias deweyanas que foram expostas, podemos extrair algumas lições para a prática docente, que muito podem ajudar a melhorar e aperfeiçoar o trabalho educacional de muitos professores, especialmente os de instituições públicas. Considerando que os seres humanos estão a todo o tempo experienciando e, por este motivo, podemos observar que experiência é vida, um dos caminhos possíveis para o professor, a nosso ver, seria tentar envolver o conteúdo escolar na realidade das experiências ordinárias de seus alunos, mostrando que existe relação entre ambos. Dessa maneira, o professor pode ensinar esses alunos a tirar proveito desses conhecimentos, compartilhá-los entre si, somando-os aos conhecimentos adquiridos fora da escola, para aplicá-los em suas respectivas vidas cotidianas.Palavras-chave: Experiência, Educação, Dewey, Prática Docente, Método Empírico.ABSTRACT: In the first chapter of the book "Experience and Nature", John Dewey (1859-1952) explores the concepts of "experience" and "nature" showing that they present a interrelated feature, considering the human life and, mainly, as the cognitive aspect. For these reasons, he argues in favor of the necessary consideration of the intrinsic relationship between experience and nature, defending the utilization of the empirical method in scientific research, since for the author, there is no sense in the dualism between theory and practice. Before this exposure, we strive to try to relate the philosophical-educational principles in its applicability into a reality limited by the lack of material and financial resources, as in the case of Brazilian public schools - where many teachers end up restricting their classes only to theoretical explanations, sticking up only to the field of secondary experience. From the deweyanas ideas that have been exposed, we can extract some lessons for teaching practice, that can greatly help to improve and increase the educational work of many teachers, especially those of public institutions. Considering that human beings are continuously experiencing and for thisreason, we can observe that experience is life, one of the possible ways for the teacher, in our view, would be to try to involve the school contents in the reality of ordinary experiences of their students, showing that there is a relationship between both. By that way, the teacher can teach these students to take advantage of this knowledge, to share them with each other adding them to the knowledge acquired outside school and applying, them in their respective everyday lives.Key-words: Experience, Education, Dewey, Teaching Practice, Empirical Method.
