In 1971, the movie A guerra dos pelados, directed by Sylvio Back, was released. Its historical subject was based on the Campanha doContestado, an armed conflict over some land which happened in the South of Brazil between 1912 and 1916. However, the film script was adapted from the novel written by Guido Wilmar Sassi, published in 1964. Despite the fact that the historical event was conducted as its main theme, the film also contains fictitious characters which were adapted to cinematographic language by Sylvio Back. Among the fictitious characters are Nenê and Zeferina, whose progress through life takes and guides a prominent emblematic meaning in the film as well as in History. This article’s goal is to investigate which narrative function these fictitious characters hold in a historical plot. The objective is to propose some interpretations for the presence of visual and verbalsigns, which are part of those characters in the film plot, and analyze them in their relation with three different contexts. First, verifying the meanings of Nenê and Zeferina’s relationship on the film. Second, interpreting them as representative symbols of the director’s vision focused on general matters (social, economical and ideological), which appeared in cultural debates of the period after the second world war. And then, explaining the meaning that this couple’s path has had as a political allegory inserted in the historical moment in which the film was produced – the tough years of military regimen in Brazil.||Em 1971, chegava às telas o filme A guerra do pelados, dirigido por Sylvio Back. Tratava-se de um filme histórico baseado na Campanha do Contestado, conflito armado pela posse da terra que ocorreu no Sul do Brasil entre 1912 e 1916. O roteiro do filme, entretanto, foi elaborado a partir de um romance escrito por Guido Wilmar Sassi e lançado em 1964. Apesar de ter como tema central um evento histórico, este romance apresenta também personagens fictícios, dentre os quais alguns foram adaptados à linguagem cinematográfica por Sylvio Back. Entre estes, está a dupla composta por Nenê e Zeferina, cuja trajetória assume umcaráter emblemático perante o filme e perante a História. O objetivo do presente artigo é investigar qual a função narrativa que estes personagens ficcionais possuem na trama de um enredo histórico. Para tanto, serão propostas algumas interpretações para a presença dos signos visuais e verbais que ambientam estes personagens na trama do filme, articuladasa partir da sua relação com três diferentes âmbitos contextuais. Primeiro, averiguando os significados que Nenê e Zeferina assumem na própria obra (o filme) a que eles pertencem. Segundo, interpretando-os como representativos da visão do cineasta ante questões gerais (sociais, econômicas e ideológicas) que estiveram presentes nos debates culturais do pós-segunda guerra. E terceiro, avaliando a trajetória desta dupla como uma alegoria política em relação ao momento histórico em que ofilme foi produzido – os anos mais duros do regime militar brasileiro.
