This article has been elaborated with the objective to justify the woman studies in the ancient period, within a perspective of gender, differently from what was done by classical studies, which many times strengthen conservative point of views. In many cases, the existed conservatism and generalization, if due to the fact of supporting themselves in an experienced reading from an ordinary sense of ancient documents. For this justification, authors that write about women, sexuality and anciently on the historiography themes were researched. KEY WORDS: ancient time, gender, woman, sexuality.|| O presente artigo foi elaborado com o objetivo de justificar os estudos da mulher na Antigüidade, dentro de uma perspectiva de gênero, diferentemente do que foi feito pelos estudos clássicos, que muitas vezes reforçam pontos de vista conservadores. Na maioria dos casos, o conservadorismo e as generalizações existentes se devem ao fato de apoiarem-se em uma leitura empirista - a partir do "senso comum" - dos documentos antigos. Para essa justificativa, foram citados autores que abordam temas referentes à mulher, à sexualidade e à Antigüidade, na historiografia. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Antigüidade, gênero, mulher, sexualidade.
