This article aims to present the defining traits of the new settings of work and its impacts on the lives of workers. Globalization of economy and productive restructuring have revolutionized the worlds of work, which attended the dismantling national and international labor markets and saw new working relationships emerge and consolidate – outsourcing, temporary work contracts, part-time work, work from home, banked hours, service contracts – and new professional skills that caused significant repercussions on the union movement and workers’ life. The considerations developed here result from analysis of a large number of studies of the Social Sciences, especially in the area of Sociology of Work, and from research conducted and directed by the author over the last twenty years. They are studies and research whose fundamental characteristic is the consensus among the authors about the specificities and social repercussions of new configurations of the worlds of work, reason enough to assign them scientific expression.Keywords: new labor relations, new professional skills, new political orientation of trade union movement.||Este artigo tem por objetivo apresentar os traços definidores das novas configurações do trabalho e suas repercussões sobre a vida dos trabalhadores. A globalização da economia e a reestruturação produtiva revolucionaram os mundos do trabalho, que assistiram à desestruturação dos mercados de trabalho, nacionais e internacionais, e viram surgir e consolidarem-se novas relações de trabalho – terceirização, contrato de trabalho temporário, trabalho em regime de tempo parcial, trabalho em domicílio, banco de horas, contrato de prestação de serviço (pejotização) – e novas competências profissionais, com significativas repercussões sobre o movimento sindical e a vida dos trabalhadores. As considerações aqui desenvolvidas resultam da análise de um grande número de estudos das Ciências Sociais, especialmente da área da Sociologia do Trabalho, e de pesquisas realizadas e orientadas pela autora ao longo dos últimos vinte anos. São estudos e pesquisas cuja característica fundamental é o consenso entre os autores sobre as especificidades e repercussões sociais das novas configurações dos mundos do trabalho, razão suficiente para atribuir-lhes expressão científica.Palavras-chave: novas relações de trabalho, novas competências profissionais, nova orientação política do movimento sindical.
