This paper aims at analyzing two projects by the Portuguese writer Gonçalo M. Tavares. The dialogical character of his work has attracted critics and readers’ attention around the world. In this essay, we discuss the book series “O Bairro” and Biblioteca, in which there is a reinterpretation of classic authors. The concepts of tradition and canon are revisited here in order to verify how Tavares establishes a dialogical relationship with some of the most important writers in the history of literature, not under the sign of influence, but as the result of the process of reading and creation that the author proposes to himself.||Este artigo pretende analisar dois projetos do escritor português Gonçalo M. Tavares. O caráter dialógico de sua obra vem atraindo a atenção de críticos e leitores em todo o mundo. Neste ensaio, discute-se a série de livros "O Bairro", além da coletânea Biblioteca, obras em que há um trabalho de releitura dos autores clássicos. Os conceitos de tradição e cânone são revisitados aqui a fim de verificar de que maneira Tavares estabelece uma relação dialógica com alguns dos mais importantes autores da história da literatura, não sob o signo da influência, mas como o resultado de todo um processo de leitura e criação que o autor se propõe.
