The purpose of this article is to discuss the importance of the Hospital Colônia Itapuã as patrimony, seeking to value and legitimize the need to preserve the history that is represented in this institution, both for its materiality, considering the physical and architectural part, the immateriality characterized memories and stories of life that developed there. The text introduces the Hospital and some of the elements that make it a heritage of Rio Grande do Sul, being a historical representation of the Country and the public policies that have led to the isolation of thousands of people.||O presente artigo tem como intuito dissertar sobre a importância do Hospital Colônia Itapuã enquanto patrimônio. Buscando valorizar e legitimar a necessidade de preservação da história que é representada nesta instituição tanto por sua materialidade, considerando a parte física e arquitetônica, quanto imaterialidade, caracterizada pelas memórias e histórias de vida que ali se desenvolveram. O texto introduz o Hospital e alguns dos elementos que o tornam um patrimônio do Rio Grande do Sul, sendo uma representação histórica do País e das políticas públicas que levaram ao isolamento de milhares de pessoas.
