RESUMOA partir do aporte teórico da História Cultural sobre o lugar da imagem na cultura (PESAVENTO, 2009), este artigo pretende problematizar o modo como o audiovisual produziu diferentes registros do século XX, testando e revisando as noções de testemunho e de documento (LE GOFF, 2019). Para isso, será discutido, inicialmente, o estatuto da imagem técnica (FLUSSER, 2002), para, em seguida, analisar as aproximações entre cinema e televisão, no Brasil, em seus diferentes formatos documentais (DA’RIN, 2004). Conclui-se que o estatuto da imagem técnica como documento foi sendo atualizado conforme os meios de comunicação audiovisuais se transformaram. Sua função de testemunho, entretanto, manteve-se intacto ao longo dos anos, pois já faz parte do imaginário sobre a imagem.ABSTRACTBased on the Cultural History and the place of image in culture (PESAVENTO, 2009), this article aims to discuss the way in which audiovisual produced different records of the 20th century, testing and revising the notions of testimony and documents (LE GOFF , 2019). To this aim, the status of the technical image will initially be discussed (FLUSSER, 2002), to then analyze the approximations between cinema and television, in Brazil, in their different documentary formats (DA’RIN, 2004). It is concluded that the status of the technical image as a document was being tested and revised as the audiovisual media were transformed. Its role of witnessing, however, has remained intact over the years, as it is already part of the imaginary about the image.
