The importance of image in modern world and the possibility of using it in history are the main issues of this paper. In recalling briefly the history of image as an ancient human practice, the author mentions the death of alegorical image brought by the outburst of photography and its analogical image and examines the relation which is then established between eye, camera and event. Special attention is given to the emotional impact images can produce in those who make them, see them or either are shown by them.||A importância da imagem no mundo moderno e a possibilidade de utilizá-la na história são os pontos principais de discussão neste artigo. Retomando brevemente a história da imagem como uma antiga prática humana, o autor menciona a morte da imagem alegórica trazida pela explosão da fotografia e sua imagem analógica, e examina a relação estabelecida entre o olho, a câmera e o evento. Atenção especial é dada ao impacto emocional que as imagens podem ter para os que as produzem, as vêem e os que são vistos através delas.
