The author makes remarks about actions taken by public administration towards protecting the industrial heritage in the state of Sao Paulo. Therefore, this study is meant to collaborate with this consideration on the current role of old areas – where the state of Sao Paulo had built its primarily industrial character - aiming to insert such areas to the planning of cities and to the construction of memories.||O autor tece considerações sobre a atuação do poder público na proteção do patrimônio industrial no estado de São Paulo. Pretende, assim, colaborar com a reflexão sobre o atual papel de antigas áreas, nas quais se baseou a construção da imagem de São Paulo como um estado industrial por excelência, visando a inseri-las no planejamento das cidades e na construção de memórias.
