The paper discusses evidences that help to reflect on the construction of the times of school, particularly the relationship between age and attendance in the schools of the region of Italian colonization in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (the old colonies of Dona Isabel, Caxias do Sul and Conde d’Eu) from 1875 to 1930. These times are ritualized by the ceremonies associated to the celebration of particular dates, the beginning of the school year, the expected period of stay at school, the age to start and to finish school education. The paper intends to understand the time of childhood in relation to the period spent at school on the basis of various historiographical sources, such as reports, letters, attendance records, roll call notebooks and photographs. The theoretical-methodological frame of reference includes the assumptions of cultural history. Finally it intends to contribute to the understanding of the history of Brazilian education in terms of the organization of the school time, taking into account the country’s cultural and ethnical multiplicity.||o texto apresenta indícios para pensar a construção dos tempos escolares, especialmente relações entre idade e frequência escolar na Região Colonial Italiana do Rio Grande do Sul (antigas colônias Dona Isabel, Caxias e Conde d’Eu), no período entre 1875 a 1930. Tempos ritualizados pelas cerimônias produzidas pelas comemorações de determinadas datas, o início do ano escolar, o período esperado de permanência na escola – a idade para iniciar e terminar os estudos. Compreender o tempo de infância em relação ao tempo de escola, a partir de fontes historiográficas diversificadas, como relatórios, correspondências, atas, mapas de frequência, cadernos de chamada e fotografias, é o intuito do texto. A referência teórico-metodológica da análise considera os pressupostos da história cultural. Por fim, o texto procura contribuir para o conhecimento da história da educação brasileira, no sentido da organização do tempo escolar, considerando a multiplicidade cultural e étnica do país.
