This article analyzes “Álbum”, a notebook of intimate writings by Maria Firmina dos Reis, with the aim of investigating the construction of her individuality and subjectivity as a black woman and novelist from Maranhão, in the mid-19th century. With this in mind, the article establishes a theoretical framework, reconstructs her social context, and presents her intimate reflections extracted from “Álbum”.||Este artigo se centra na análise de “Álbum”, caderno de escritos íntimos de Maria Firmina dos Reis, em busca de refletir sobre a construção da individualidade e subjetividade de uma mulher negra, romancista, em meados do século XIX, no Maranhão. Para tal, o artigo propõe um recorte teórico, reconstitui o contexto social da romancista e apresenta trechos de suas reflexões privadas constantes de seu “Álbum”.
