The New Ecclesiastic Movements at the Catholic Church,which must not be confused with the most known New Religious Movements– even though between them some overlapping can be identified –,certainly address to the religion annalist some theoretical and methodologicalchallenges. Those challenges are originated, in part, from the new statusassumed by religion in modernity, but also from transformations occurredinside that Church while defining its relationship with the modern world.Since the aggiornamento of the Catholicism, between the Second VaticanCouncil and the power assumption by the former cardinal-prefect of theCongregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the world underwent importanttransformations, whose understanding and possible explanation demandnew postures of theoretical and methodological nature, that tentativelywill be able to help in the comprehension about the role and purposeof the religion in the current world.||Os Novos Movimentos Eclesiais na Igreja Católica, que não seconfundem com os mais conhecidos Novos Movimentos Religiosos – emboraentre eles possa existir alguma superposição – colocam, para o analistada religião, certos desafios teórico-metodológicos. Eles decorrem, em parte,do novo status assumido pela religião na modernidade, mas também dastransformações ocorridas nessa mesma Igreja em sua relação com o mundomoderno. Entre o aggiornamento do catolicismo a partir do ConcílioVaticano II e a assunção ao poder do antigo prefeito da Congregação para aDoutrina da Fé, a Igreja e o mundo sofreram transformações importantes,cuja compreensão e possível tentativa de explicação demandam novas posturasde natureza teórico-metodológica que, talvez, possam ajudar no entendimentoda finalidade e do papel da religião no mundo atual.
