The sociological approach to a historically based Mass Culture fiction cannot limit the content itself at telling the “truth” from “fiction”, but must strive at analyzing the historical context/ circumstances in which produces various versions of the same historical events/ facts have been concocted – something for which the “mediatic” portrayal of Roman History in Mass Culture offers itself as a ready case study.||Uma análise sociologicamente produtiva das ficções de fundo histórico produzidas pela Indústria Cultural não pode limitar-se a distinguir entre “verdade” e “ficção”, mas sim analisar as diversas circunstâncias históricas que produziram esta ou aquela ficcionalização de um fato histórico, o que o artigo abaixo pretende analisar fazendo um estudo de caso das vicissitudes sofridas pela representação midiáticas da História da Roma antiga.
