This paper attempts to answer what advisers have to say about their social practice. Interpretive in nature, this research counts with data generated by advisers of master in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics from Rio de Janeiro. Through the Critical Discourse Analysis’s (CDA) Second Dimension, interdiscourse analysis confirms the interpretation that advisers act on idiosyncrasy, and that the main social actors of this act are the adviser and his/her mentees, in an asymmetrical relationship of power. The survey also allowed other discussions: a) the reflection of the subjects about their roles and responsibilities; and b) to update the theoretical approach, applied to a topic less explored. De caráter interpretativo, conta com a participação de orientadores de mestrado em Linguística/Linguística Aplicada, no Rio de Janeiro. Pautada na segunda dimensão proposta pela Análise Crítica do Discurso (ACD), a análise dos dados, através da interdiscursividade, possibilitou interpretar que os sujeitos da pesquisa atuam na idiossincrasia, e que os principais atores sociais desse fazer são orientador e orientando em relação assimétrica de poder. O estudo possibilitou, ainda, a) a reflexão dos sujeitos sobre seus papéis/atribuições; e b) a atualização do aporte teórico, aplicado a um tema ainda pouco explorado.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: ACD.
