The present text is a reapresentation, a synthetic adaptation and a free translation of the introduction made by Isabelle Stengers and Bruno Latour (in "The Sphinx of the Work") to the English translation of "Les differents modes d'existence", 1943 ("The Different Modes of existence", 2015), written by the French philosopher Étienne Souriau. The reason for doing so is the relative oblivion that came upon it, despite its strength, plus the surprise that causes a philosophy that not only undoes the Kantian fissure but brings the art and what it has of more intensive, that is its way of doing, to the center of the ontological question - what, after all, do we do by existing?||O presente texto é uma reapresentação, uma adaptação sintética e uma tradução livre da introdução feita por Isabelle Stengers e Bruno Latour (em The sphinx of the work) à tradução para o inglês da obra Les différents modes d’existence, de 1943 (The different modes of existence, 2015), do filósofo francês Étienne Souriau. A razão de fazê-lo é o relativo esquecimento em que caiu apesar de sua força, além da surpresa que causa uma filosofia que não só desfaz a fissura kantiana como traz a arte e o que esta tem de mais intensivo, que é seu modo de fazer, para o centro da questão ontológica – o que fazemos, afinal, ao existir?
