RESUMOO Balneário Cassino, localizado na cidade do Rio Grande é caracterizado pelo fluxo de veículos automotores na faixa de praia. A metodologia do trabalho teve como base revisão bibliográfica, documental, além de entrevistas, participação em audiências, reuniões comunitárias, além do mapeamento do trânsito. O objetivo foi analisar a prática com opiniões da sociedade e dos órgãos públicos, junto às relevâncias do ordenamento do acesso planejado mediante a gestão costeira do balneário. Os resultados revelam que embora na ilegalidade, no momento torna-se inviável excluir totalmente o trânsito de veículos automotores na faixa de praia, por questões culturais e pela falta de infraestrutura na orla. São necessárias iniciativas de gerenciamento que diminuam o fluxo, atividades educativas ambientais, além da adequabilidade junto aos órgãos gestores sobre o plano de uso.ABSTRACTThe resort of Cassino, located in the city of Rio Grande is characterized by the flow of motor vehicles in the strip of beach. The methodology of the work was based on bibliographical, documentary revision, besides interviews, participation in audiences, community meetings, besides the mapping of the traffic. The objective was to analyze the practice with opinions of society and of the organs, together with the relevance of the use planning through coastal management of the beach resort. The results reveal that although in the illegality, at the moment it becomes unfeasible to totally exclude the transit of motor vehicles in the strip of beach, by cultural questions and the lack of infrastructure in the border. Management initiatives are required to reduce flow, environmental education activities, and the adequacy of management plans to the management plan.
